Fellow Rotarians our Speaker this week is Greg Winning. Greg will speak and present a powerful presentation on his "Living Communities" a master plan for reviving the economies of country towns in WA...(psst …... it's not about gaining another government handout!) The first pilot town of Goomalling is now entering its initial stage of his plan. If you have an interest in country WA and are intrigued to find out more then join us this friday with family and friends of Rotarians. A taste of his thinking and philosophies follows: GREG WINNING’S WORDS "I love people with imagination. I am always excited by people who don't see the walls but the fields beyond." "Why can't we create a world where we do things for others and get more than enough for ourselves in return? We should be opening our organisations up to this concept." EMBRACING CHANGE "We encourage organisations to change themselves. Most organisations encourage compliance or what is seen as safe thinking. Ironically, safe thinking is the most risky option. Safe thinking means stagnation and stagnation means a slow but certain death for any organisation large or small. As a consultant, my role is to provide a new view, another way of thinking about the problem so that 'safe' thinking is seen for what it really is, an organisational paradigm designed to keep individuals in the organisation safe, not the actual organisation itself. Consultants can't change an organisation but we can help the organisation and the people in it to realise it has to develop new ways of thinking." Greg has spent his whole working life continually learning how people act and respond to the messages the world gives them each and every day. Originally trained in photography and media in the late 80s and early 90s, he went on to establish a career in the advertising and media industry. "One thing the marketing world has taught me is that the enterprises, both private, governmental and social, that thrive, are the one's who were always prepared to stay 3 steps ahead of their competition, even when there was no competition around!" Greg has worked with clients including; Harvey Norman, BHP Billiton, Woodside Energy, The Department of Planning and Infrastructure as well as many small and medium businesses and not for profit enterprises. He is married with three small children and is the co-founder of the Living CommunitiesTMeconomic development program for rural Australian communities.
