The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) is the peak national organisation dedicated to reducing the impact of prostate cancer on the Australian community by:
  • Providing information and support to men with prostate cancer and their families through a national network of 85 Prostate Cancer Support Groups
  • Funding ongoing research into the identification, prevention and treatment options for prostate cancer
  • Raising community awareness of prostate cancer

Rotary Club of Lane Cove in NSW developed the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia in 1996 when one of their members, a well known journalist, Roger Climpson was diagnosed with prostate cancer and could find no information. In recognition of the important role Rotary International has played in the history of PCFA, there is a Rotary position on the National PCFA Board and PCFA State Boards in New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland. The National PCFA Awareness and Education Committee established a Rotary International Working Party in 2009.

PCFA receives very limited Australia Government or State Government funding and relies on the generosity of its supporters to fund important projects. Rotary Clubs all over Australia are outstanding supporters of PCFA and our work and have contributed financially to the PCFA Prostate Cancer Research Program. The project below is not asking for financial support, merely an invitation!
Community Partnerships – The National Men’s Health Ambassador Speaker Program
District 9800 Community Service Chairman in 2008/2009 Mev Connell assisted PCFA to apply for funding from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing for the National Men’s Health Ambassador Speaker Program by acting as a referee. PCFA was successful and this is our first large Government funded project.
How can Rotary Clubs assist?
PCFA has trained 94 National Men’s Health Ambassador Speakers and we can supply a speaker at any Rotary Club anywhere any day any time in Australia at no cost. They have already spoken to over
12, 000 audience members since November 2008 creating awareness of Prostate Health and Continence Health. The Ambassador Speaker Program is funded by the National Continence Management Strategy- National Men’s Continence Awareness Project. Our commitment to the Australian Government is to reach 19,200 audience members nationally. We will achieve this easily!
If Rotary Clubs in District 9450 would consider inviting a National Men’s Health Ambassador Speaker to their club, and /or promote the program to a Rotary Club in regional or rural Australia (in any state or territory) you will assist us to reach our marketing target of 50,000 audience members! Please know that every audience member is given a take home National Men’s Health Links with contact details for 20 areas of health of interest to men. This allows men to access information on Cardiovascular Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Cancer, Depression, Relationship issues, and many other health areas from home and in their own time.
To invite a speaker please contact:  1800 206 700 (free call) or go to
