Wow – how quickly is this year going – two more lunches and our annual Christmas Breakfast and I’ve completed half of my Presidential year!
Talking about lunch, I guess we have worked out the secret to getting the best lunches in town – have a food critic as your guest speaker. And what an enlightening and entertaining speaker Rob Broadfield is.
Now we just need to convince Rob to become a club member, because I love fresh prawns on my steak and yummy chocolate pudding to complete the meal. Would every week be too greedy?
And how good was it to have the full Campbell Family at lunch too – a true Rotary of Perth family membership at work, Wendy and hubby Rob, Tristan and Blaine, Thomas and Alythea and then there they all are together as a family again on Friday night as multiple award winners at the City of Bayswater Business Awards.
Saturday night saw a number of Club members attending the Rotaract Club of Perth Movie Fundraiser to support LIVIN Foundation for the prevention of youth suicide.
And Sunday afternoon I had the pleasure of attending Rotary District Governor Patricia’s District Presidents and AG’s afternoon tea at which a number of informative presentations were made in relation to The Rotary Foundation, Membership and Marketing. And delicious snacks and wine – thank you DG Patricia
Talking about Xmas and good food and fellowship, many of you may not be aware that all Rotarians are entitled to become members of IYFR (The International Yachting Fellowship of Rotarians). And you do not need to own a boat – you just need to enjoy boating in order to participate in the number of fun fellowship events that IYFR hosts. A fortnight ago we held a soiree at past Commodore Ivan Bennett and Carmel’s new pad in Mandurah and this Saturday night, Commodore Jeff Leach and Helen are hosting our annual IYFR Christmas Function at their home in Dalkeith. It is a wonderful night of good food and wine, fun and fellowship. And the event is FREE to all IYFR members and their partners. All we ask is that you bring a gift on the night (maximum value of $20) which will be donated to the Salvation Army at our Rotary of Perth Christmas Breakfast to be presented to the residents of our Path of Hope Refuge (see flyer on next page). But the even better news is that the membership to become an IYFORIAN is only $75 per annum – which you will recover in spades in food, fun, boating and fellowship. So I personally encourage you to chat to past president Jeff (see details on the flyer), who is the current Commodore of the WA Fleet (an honour that will be passed on to me next year, and then to past president Nigel Barker the following year).
I look forward to seeing you all at this Friday’s lunch to listen to our guest speaker Dr Monika Nagel on the interesting topic of Outrageous Expectations & Corrosion of Responsibility- a Dangerous Cocktail.
Yours in Rotary, Larry Hirsch - President - Rotary of Perth 2016/2017
